What are the Different Types of Dental Implants?

Are you missing one or more teeth and looking for a permanent solution? Then, you have come to the right place!

In this blog post, we will discuss the different types of implants, what they are, and when you may need them. Dental implants are a high-quality dental restoration option. If you are missing one or more teeth, your dentist may suggest a dental implant to fill the gap.

What are dental implants?

Simply put, a dental implant is a titanium screw that acts like a natural tooth root. It is a piece of metal surgically inserted into or onto your jawbone or cheekbone to create a base for a prosthetic tooth.

Once you have recovered from dental implant surgery, your dentist will attach an abutment to the implant, and then a crown.

What are Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures?

Types of Dental Implants:-

1. Endosteal Implants:- Endosteal implants are the most common type of dental implant used. They are metal screws made of titanium that are surgically implanted into the jawbone. Over time, they fuse with the natural bone.

2. Subperiosteal Implants:- The second type is subperiosteal implants. These are the alternatives to endosteal implants. This is often the implant of choice when there is not enough bone to support the implant. They are placed on or above the jawbone to hold the replacement tooth.

3. All-on-4 Dental Implants:- All-on-4 dental implants are recommended for patients with little or no teeth and seeking a secure solution. This restores your entire upper and lower teeth set. In this, four dental implants are used to anchor the prosthesis. These implants are placed in any suitable bone in the patient’s mouth.

They are called all-on-4 implants because four implants are used per jaw.

4. Implant-Supported Bridge:- An implant-supported bridge is similar to a regular bridge but supported by dental implants on either end. Not every crown in the bridge needs an implant.

The dental crowns in the middle do not need dental implants and are called ‘pontics’, and the dental crowns on both ends of the bridge that are attached to dental implants are called ‘retainer crowns’.

5. Implant-Supported Denture:- Implant-supported dentures innovatively combine the functionality of a removable denture with the stability of a dental implant. Implant-supported dentures reduce the painful sores and looseness associated with conventional dentures. They do not require patients to use denture paste. They are painless and effective, resulting in more comfort and increased confidence. This treatment is often used for patients who have enough bone support.
